Outstanding Administrator Award
2010 Mr. Stan Turner, Principal of Bennington Junior Senior High School

The Nebraska State Bandmasters Association presented its annual Outstanding Administrator Award to Mr. Stan Turner, Secondary Principal of Bennington Junior Senior High School in Bennington. The presentation was made at the awards banquet during the Bandmasters annual convention in Lincoln on Friday, March 511. This award is intended to honor an administrator in the state of Nebraska, for demonstrating support, interest, and encouragement of the school's instrumental music program. Band directors from across the state nominate administrators for this award.

Rob Harturtg, Director of Bands at Bennington Public Schools, states in his nomination letter, "Stan Turner has been a force for the development of a schedule that allows for the development of successful Fine Arts programs. Stan understands the need for student contact time in order for students to achieve. Among his first actions in Bennington, was the development of a schedule that gave both band and choir the opportunity to excel. "Stan also was instrumental in starting a marching program at Bennington. It was his belief that students at Bennington needed to have as full an experience in band as students in other schools that offered marching band. Students come first for Stan with every decision he makes."

Larry Jones, former Director of Bands at Madison Public Schools states, As a principal at Madison High School in the 1980's 90's Mr. Turner was instrumental in building a class schedule that would permit anyone who wanted to participate in band the opportunity to do so without encountering a class conflict. He saw to it that additional sections of Algebra, American History, Biology, and English were added to accommodate the band.

The band grew in size from the mid 60's to over 120 members during his tenure." Mr. Turner is a member of NASSP and NCSA. His previous positions have included teacher and coach at Creighton and Wood River, NE. As a principal he has served at Andes Central, Lake Andes SD, Madison, NE, and currently at Bennington, NE.300
