Outstanding Administrator Award
2014 -Mr. Kevin Riggert, Principal of Elkhorn Ridge Middle School

The Outstanding Administrator Award honors an administrator for his/her support, interest, and encouragement of the school instrumental music program. At this time I would like to invite Kyle Dreesen to the podium for the presentation of this honor.

The Nebraska State Bandmasters Association presented its annual Outstanding Administrator Award to Mr. Kevin Riggert, Principal of Elkhorn Ridge Middle School in Elkhorn, NE. The presentation was made at the awards banquet during the Bandmasters annual convention in Lincoln on Friday, March 6th. This award is intended to honor an administrator in the state of Nebraska, for demonstrating support, interest, and encouragement of the school’s instrumental music program. Band directors from across the state nominate administrators for this award.

Kyle Dreessen, Band Director at Elkhorn Ridge Middle School, states in his nomination letter, “Mr. Riggert’s support of the band program was never in question. Whenever we need something Mr. Riggert has always approved the request. He has not missed a band concert, and his attendance at the concert is more than just being in attendance. Mr. Riggert has been known to dress up to portray a character for a piece the band is playing. His roles have included, but are nor limited to: Mighty Mouse, Shrek, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (on roller skates), and most recently Mr. Incredible. After the big reveal of his costume, Mr. Riggert will come and join in the band and play the tuba. Who doesn’t always want another tuba player?

Kyle Dreessen also included in his letter “Mr. Riggert is also a charger bus driver for Arrow Stage Lines. His weekends in October are always full driving to marching band competitions. Kevin also enjoys driving the bus to show choir competitions.”

Kevin Riggert is in his 24th year in Education. Prior to this position he was a 6th grade teacher in Grand Island, and Assistant Principal at Barr Jr. High in Grand Island, Elementary Principal at Seedling Mile and Lincoln Elementary in Grand Island, and he came to Elkhorn Middle School in 1990 and opened to Elkhorn Ridge Middle School in 2002. Kevin and his wife Judy have two children, Laura 25 and Hannah 16, and they have three grandchildren Issabella 3, Wesley 2, and Alivia 5 months. Mr. Riggert also received the Elkhorn Educator of the year in 2007, he is very active in the AdvancED Accredation Commission where he is the chairman of Accredation, and his professional organizations are NCSA, NASSP, ASCD, and AMLE.
